Employers - Nurse
All nursing candidates hold a valid and verifiable Nursing Diploma from accredited institutions. A good number of the candidates hold Bachelors or Masters Degrees in Nursing from accredited Universities.
In addition to their clinical training, a minimum two years of verifiable hospital experience is required for consideration. All candidates have the authority or license to practice as a Nurse in their Country of practice.
To be precise in definition, all candidates are educated and licensed as both as a first level and a general nurse as defined historically by the International Council of Nurses.
All candidates must also demonstrate their English Language proficiency by passing standardized tests, TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language), TWE (Test of Written English), and TSE (Test of Spoken English), all three administered by the Educational Testing Services, Princeton, New Jersey.
Most State Board of Licensing (44 of 50) requires, a nurse who graduated from a nursing schools located outside of the US, to hold a CGFNS (Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools) Certificate as a requisite to appear for the NCLEX-RN (National Council on Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses) examination.
Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools, is a non-profit organization, based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Among the founders of the CGFNS were several US government agencies and private non-profit organizations including the American Nurses Association (ANA) and the National League for Nursing (NLN).
CGFNS is an intense and thorough certification program to test the knowledge and understanding of nursing as taught and practiced in the United States. CGFNS authenticates all the educational credentials before allowing a candidate to take the qualifying exam. The qualifying exam is a one-day exam administered in 40 countries worldwide in March, July, and November. The format of the CGFNS qualifying exam is the same as that of the NCLEX-RN examination.
CGFNS also certifies the English proficiency of the candidates to function as a nurse in the United States. A passing score on the TOEFL is a requirement for the CGFNS Certificate.

The selection process is very thorough and intense. The requirements are so stringent; and only a very few, top of the class, candidates will ever be eligible to practice in the United States.
Depending on your requirements, we can arrange to have you telephone-interview the candidates, or if desired, we can arrange for you to travel to their country and interview and select the candidates in person.
Please understand, the competition is intense. Already, almost all the big city hospitals are actively recruiting overseas, including offering attractive incentives to keep potential candidates in their fold.
Despite all the earnest efforts to attract and retain young people to the nursing profession, the demands for nurses will remain strong in the US for at least the next twenty-five years.
According to the American Hospital Association, as reported by the Reuters on October 20, 2001, there were 126,000 nursing positions left vacant in October 2001 in American Hospitals and it is expected to grow close to 400, 000 by the year 2020.
Therefore, it is only prudent and desirable to formulate an overseas strategy as part of the on-going nurses recruiting. Since the process is time consuming, we recommend that the recruiting be put in motion as soon as possible.
